Sometimes, the expectations of being a uni student in the twenty-first century can be overwhelming. We need to balance work, uni, social activities, and finances.

A report by Universities Australia found that 58% of Australian University Students worry about their financial situation. Worse, 14% of students regularly go without food or basic necessities because they are too expensive.
It is important to remember that you are not alone, and that there are services available out there – like financial counciling.
USASA financial counciling is a free, independent service provided to all University of South Australia students. They assist with developing a budget, dealing with financial issues, and can provide general guidance.
I sat down with UniSA financial councilor Debbie Saegenschnitter to speak about student finance, budgeting, and financial councilling.
“My role is to help students through a financial issue, whether it be a debt, financial standing, or just some help with budgeting,” Debbie says.
“Money has always been a bit of a taboo topic. No one ever really talks about how much they earn or what they spend.”
She says students can feel less anxious about money with a budget, some financial counselling, and with financial literacy.
